This is an exceptionally rare lens. It was made at the Oberkochen plant in West Germany during a very short period in 1958. Less than 1,000 were made.

Linhof/Zeiss increased the price up on this Tessar when the Biogon/Planar/Sonnar were introduced along with it. Literature claims the new and improved Tessar incorporates Schott glass and a recomputed formula.

Image circle is 165mm and uses a 49mm screw-in filter. Linhof Shutter is from a Symmar lens (made for Linnof) with a dual aperture scale of f45 to f5.6, whereas the lens elements require that a fully open shutter is a f4.5. Original shutter which is missing its internal mechanism is also supplied. Included (might not be in photographs): Supplied with a rear retaining ring. Optical: The optics are very good.

There are very minor cleaning marks or scratches. Slight delamination to the edge of the rear elements (3mm fron the outside edges). Signs of normal use consistent with age.

We carefully inspect, grade, check and test all items prior to sale. Damage that will affect the picture quality. Marks that may be considered unsightly, though will not affect the picture. All items are guaranteed for 90 days. These must be unused and in their original condition and packing.

Based on customer feedback we have revised our product gradings to be easier to understand. Like New: As new with box and paperwork. Like New Minus: Close inspection reveals slight signs of wear. Excellent Plus: Signs of light use, but not misuse.

Excellent: Signs of normal use consistent with age. Showing signs of heavy use. Bargain: Rough with functional and/or cosmetic damage.

Glass heavily marked or fungus. As-is: Usable for parts only. Our old conditions grades are still applied on some products. They are adopted from the photographic catalogue'McKeown's Price Guide to Antique and Classic Cameras'. 2: No signs of wear.

3: Very minimal signs of wear. 4: Signs of light use, but not misuse. 5: Complete, but showing signs of normal use or age.

All lenses, even when new, may have particles of dust that are visible that will not affect the image quality. This is certainly true for older used lenses. Our gradings indicate when lens imperfections could affect the image quality. Minor faults that may affect some photos. Major faults that will affect most photos.
