Since West Points Corps of Cadets, Armys traditional cheering section, was not allowed to make the trip, another novel accommodation was made. The Naval Academys third- and fourth-year midshipmen were ordered to sit behind the Army bench and cheer for the visiting team. The 1942 match grew more unusual by the hour. Newsmen in attendance wrote enthusiastically about Armys Navy-populated cheering section.
